The existing chimney crown, which was showing signs of cracking and spalling, was completely removed down to the top course of bricks. A new, reinforced concrete crown was then cast in situ, incorporating a drip edge to direct water away from the chimney stack. The mix used was a high-strength, low-permeability concrete designed for external exposure. Concurrently, the flaunching around the pot(s) was rebuilt using a strong, frost-resistant sand and cement mortar mix, carefully shaped to create a smooth, watertight seal around the base of the chimney pot(s) and a sufficient fall to shed water effectively. All joints were thoroughly pointed and sealed to ensure a durable, water-tight finish, addressing the previous ingress issues.
